Brighton & Fairview Hill

  • Brighton Place Cincinnati, Ohio, 45214 United States (map)

About

How close are two neighborhoods when the route between them takes you across a bridge and up a hillside staircase? This November hike begins in Brighton, at the northern edge of the West End, before climbing into Fairview to explore Cincinnati through its hills and pedestrian connections.

Along the Brighton Approach and the Fairview steps, we will look at how renewed connections can change the experience of moving through the city. Walking that climb lets us feel the distance and elevation firsthand, watch the view open behind us, and understand how a bridge or staircase can bring neighboring places closer together.

We will also notice where connections remain missing or difficult to navigate. Those gaps become especially apparent on foot, raising questions about which routes we maintain, what we have lost, and how we could make walking between neighborhoods easier.

With November’s thinning canopy revealing more of the hillside, this hike invites us to push beyond familiar routes and see how Brighton and Fairview fit into the larger city.

Terrain & Landscape

We’ll walk on sidewalks and hillside stairways, with sustained uphill sections, uneven pavement, and street crossings.

The hike explores Brighton and climbs into Fairview. Be prepared for hills and multiple flights of steps, which may be covered with fallen leaves.

We will start promptly at 10:00 AM at the corner of Brighton Place and Central Avenue.
